Being a Muslim, it is our responsibility to develop a regular prayer routine. I developed it over time. It is not a hard job, but we need to work on our weaknesses. Once we can overcome our fault, we will be able to pray five times a day.

1) Ask Allah for help:

The first thing you need to do is seek help from Allah. If you lack the spark in you, ask Allah Almighty for it. He will give it to you. It also makes sense that whenever you ask Allah for help in good deeds, Allah helps you and guides you in the right way

2) Overcome laziness:

The next thing you need to do to develop a regular prayer routine is to overcome your laziness. I was lazy initially, but then I tried hard to subdue my laziness. For example, I offered Asar and Maghrib prayers in the early days. But then, I realized that my biggest weakness is laziness. So, I worked on it, fought against my comfort zone, and subdued my weakness.

3) Keep in view the benefits of prayers:

When you know the benefits of something you do, you want to do it more. That’s the same case with the prayers too. The first and utmost benefit of offering prayer is it is the second pillar of Islam. On the day of judgment, Allah Almighty will ask about prayers before everything. Several Hadiths are narrated from Hazrat Muhammad SAW in the importance of offering prayers. So, you need to keep in view the benefits of prayers.

4) Be consistent:

Consistency is the key to success and great habits on behalf of consistency. The more consistent you are, the more you achieve your desire. If you have made it a habit to offer a specific prayer, don’t lose it. Instead, be more consistent and persistent.

5) Set target:

It is one of the best techniques to develop a regular prayer routine. I started with offering one prayer in a day. Then, over time I began to set a target for myself. Like, first, I started with the Fajr prayer. We know how difficult it is to offer the Fajr prayer. But with consistency, I achieved that target. The next target I set for myself was to offer the fajr prayer in the mosque. That was very hard for me as waking up early in the morning and going to the mosque is a tough task to do, but with the help of Allah Almighty, I made it to the mosque regularly.

6) Make a commitment with yourself:

Commit with yourself that you will never miss any prayer. Try to fulfill your commitment and never show any negligence. Humans are weak, but with the help of inner belief, humans can do what they want to do.

7) Punish yourself:

Punish yourself if you miss any prayer. It seems quite odd how one can punish themself, but it is the best technique to develop your prayer routine. For example, if you miss any prayer, commit with yourself that you will perform the missed prayer and offer four Rakat “Nawafil.” That is the best way to punish yourself. And, by doing so, you leave the “Iblis” despair and sadness. The next time, he will not stop you from offering prayers.


You also can achieve regularity in prayer. It is a tough task but very easy if someone shows commitment, consistency, and persistency. In a nutshell, I developed a regular prayer routine by following the seven mentioned tips.
